I reviewed this before on youtube.com, and
haven't seen it since. Then I watched it
again today. And I have to admit that the 2nd
showing led me to believe that this effort is
not as good as I had remembered. First and foremost, the use of Batman
villians in a Nightwing film kills the entire
project for me. If Grayson wants to go it on
his own and become his own man, why in God's
name would he battle the Joker, a villian
that Batman has defeated numerous times? I
said this in my youtube.com review, if
Nightwing/Dick Grayson is your central
character, and Bludhaven is his backdrop,
then everything pertaining to Gotham needs to
be left out of the film. "Nightwing: A Night
in Bludhaven", albeit a bad film, got that
part right. It took a character we rarely see
on film, and gave him his own world. Here, we
see Dick Grayson with a new name fighting the
same ol' baddies. Another problem I had was the story. I didn't
understand exactly what the plot was. Is it
an origin film? Or just a transitional film
where Robin makes the decision to become
Nightwing. Also, as mentioned above, the use
of the Joker is what kills the mood of the
film. Why would he care if Bludhaven has a
new hero? Last I remember, before being
killed off in the comics, Bludhaven's big
time crime boss is Roland Desmond, aka
Blockbuster. So why not shoot for that
villian, rather than recyling the Joker? The camera angles also left much to be
desired. Nothing to fancy here. Just standart
static shots. I would suggest different
angles for different characters. For
instance, had you filmed a scene involving
both Batman and Nightwing exchanging
dialogue, Batman could've been filmed to seem
as we were looking up to him. That would help
gives us a better on screen persepctive of
how Grayson views his mentor. Speaking of dialogue...besides the thin
monologue in the opening seconds, this
trailer had nothing to help move the story. I
know it's a trailer, but what people forget
is that you're still trying to tell a story
here, and the lack of dialogue does not help.
I myself admit as a failure to execute such
in my own film posted on this site, and I
wish I had. It's understandable that this is
only a trailer, but with some short, sharp
dialogue exchanges between characters, I
think that this easily could've become a much
better trailer. Perhaps some lines between
Bruce and Dick about why Dick feels the need
to venture off and find himself. That would
be money in the bank if you could nail the
lines and emotion. So, while I applaud your efforts, and don't
get me wrong, this is not by any means a BAD
trailer, I just felt that there where too
many holes throughout what I saw on screen to
give it a 3. I say 2.5, despite the options
allotted by the ratings system.
