Over all the film was pretty great. The first
half was almost flawless (besides a few dodgy
accents) with the lighting, sound, and cuts
all professional looking and interesting. The
characters danced around telling these Batman
stories which was good at establishing
location and characters, but maybe a little
forced and ultimately unnessicary. The first glimpse of The Joker is geniuenly
scary, I paused and re-watched it, but I lost
interest a little when the film descended
more into a typical 'slasher' flick. Just
everything about the 'Joker hunts everyone
down' sequence seemed unprofessional, like
you'd intentionally kept it brief and quick
so that the assassin would be of almost
mythic proportions, but it just came off
rushed in the film. Then the film slows down again, and we see
the flashbacks and the burying of the 'main
baddie', when the film picked up again. Good
choice of music, and I liked the blood red
colouring of the flashbacks, aswell as the
final 2 actors performances. (Also --
although this has nothing to do with the
merit or story of the film -- the guy 'buried
alive' would quite easily just sit up.) The film was very very good, the only thing I
think you didn't succeed in was the 'slasher'
sequence, in which as I've said above
regardless of how you wanted it to play out
simply seemed rushed like you didn't give a
damn and instead wanted to get to the climax
(which is possibly true.) I think the film
would've been improved if you'd cut a minute
or two of the poker game, and added those 2
minutes to the slasher sequence, actually
showing more tension and build up other than
'cut/someone dies/cut'. Hope to see more from you, and maybe one of
these days you'll cut whatever you have of
The Fall into some sort of Graysonesque
extended trailer. Good work.
