A fine point. It remains a question of trust, but the committee system alters how much blind trust is required. The fact that people have to ask to be put on the committee would assure more commitment, for one thing, but the biggest difference would be the creation, submission, and possible assignment of the samples I had mentioned. An open voting system would have us blindly trust people to have read/viewed everything, which would never be the case, while the committee and sampling system would have us trust those having asked to participate to have viewed/read maybe a half-hour's to an hour's worth of material over a two-week period, and I have faith enough in humanity that anyone who asked to be on the committee is a decent enough person not to disregard such a minute responsibility. But who knows? Maybe my faith is misplaced.

You're completely right in saying it's still an issue of trust, but it's blindly trusting everyone with everything versus blindly trusting those most willing to participate with a small and efficient work load. I just thought the system, though more complicated than a simple vote, would allow for a better evaluation of quality and a better shot for those people with less exposure, kind fo like the Oscars instead of the People's choice. Then again, this system may very well benefit me more than anyone, so maybe I should just shut my big biased mouth. Confused Wink

Regardless, I'm in all honesty having a lot of fun talking about this. tmbrtn has already suggested systems other than mine, so maybe the committee's not such a hot idea. What's everyone think?

Maybe the commitee could be made up of people who have yet to put something on this site...that way it would not be biased.

I have yet to put a fan film on this site, and I don't expect to be putting one up or start filming one until late, late 2006, mid 2007, so if we go with a committee I would definately be game to being part of a committee. I don't really know anybody personally on this site except for Aerial Prince of Gotham, who is in the same boat as I am with not making or having anything to do with a fan film.

So I would be up for a committee if one is formed. If you look at most of my reviews on the films, I am pretty much up front and honest, I go into detail with most of my comments and don't just put great film, so and so was hot, I think about what I liked and didn't like about a fan film, teaser, etc...

But if we go to a voting poll style, it could open up alot of people to get there friends to join for the day or two just to vote in there fan film, project. Or get them to sign up for a few more accounts and vote for there project, and in that case if we go with this style of voting and somebody is caught doing that there project and everything related with it should be automatically disqualified! NO EXCUSES...

So to let you all know again Smile I am for a committee, rather than voting polls...

Some categories that I would like to see are:

1. Best Fan Film
2. Best Fan Trailer
3. Best Fan Teaser
4. Best Lead Male Actor
5. Best Lead Female Actress
6. Best supporting Male Actor
7. Best supporting Female Actress
8. Best Fan Script (only if the film is made)
9. Best Music fitting to a Fan Project
10. Best Costume/Makeup
11. Best Fight Scene/Stunt Work

And have a special category for fan films/projects that have a BIG BUDGETS like a Grayson, Dead End, Worlds Finest, etc...

Just some thoughts...

I really like the idea of having annual Batman Fan Film awards:

I've given it thought as to what the categories should be (I'm sure everyone else has as well)

1: Best Fan Film (Original)
2: Best Fan Film (Adapted)
3: Best Actor (Hero)
4: Best Actor (Villian)
5: Best Actress (Hero)
6: Best Actress (Villian)
7: Best Drama
8: Best Comedy
9: Best Animated Fan Film
10: Best Cinematography
11: Best Computer Effects
12: Best Screenplay (Filmed)
13: Best Screenplay (Un-Filmed)
14: Best Costumes
15: Best Locations
16: Best Original Music
17: Best Use of Un Licensed Music
18: Best Fan Trailer
19: Best Fan Teaser
20: BFF Life Time Achievement Award

We could use some of these categories, if you wish...

I think with a committee it should be an odd number this way here we don't have to worry about breaking a tie, so I would suggest either a 5 or 7 member committee. And again I will throw my name out there to be on the committe. And since this is new, I would maybe suggest for the first award show we start off small and see what comes of it, perhaps limit the categories to no more than 7-10, and as the award show grows add more and more.

I'd pick the six most influential members of BFF.

Judge Rico
Bobman
Myself
etc.

The committee of 6 influential BFF members would be the first step.

In the event that a committee member's own work is up for nomination, that member would bow out from the desicion of any and all categories where his/her work is nominated and let someone take his/her place for that category, to make it fair.

For example. Say I'm on the committee. If Patrol is nominated for Best Make Up and Best Actor (Villian), Someone else comes in to take my place for the decision of those two awards, then I'd return to help with the rest of the decisions.

You see?

Hmm, I'm still dubious about these awards and I'm not sure they'll work. There's a hell of a lot of variables between everyone's work, I think it'd be too difficult to judge.

I'd hate to be the one who had to decide who won what award.

Damn.

Well, that sounds it sounds okay and I'd be up for it if the original members make up the committee. But I think Ariel Prince or Techno Bat should be included somewhere because they're pretty level headed guys.

*especially snooty* Very well. I shall HUMBLY accept the position of award commitee judge, seeing as how people come to me personally for specific advice on occassion.

Of course, the irony being that even though I am highly respected on these boards, I only have ONE film to my credit, with varying response... *lol*

I know I'm little more than a noob with a big mouth and pretty much as far as it gets from a longstanding reputable member of the community, but I'd feel pretty silly if I didn't offer my services to the committee after spending so much time arguing on its behalf. I'm willing to be a member and put my money where my mouth is, if you guys are interested. But if you think I'm a bit too green, feel free to turn me down. I'm just trying to be helpful.
