So it's been confirmed that legally, Batman isn't allowed on Smallville.
Anyone thought of doing a fanisode where he appears? Fans may feel cheated that Bruce will not appear.
Another option is a fan series. I'd love to see Batman get his own Phase II/New Voyages - I know this has been mentioned here before, but it would be so cool.
I know people may not have the time and resources - but to get an episode in the quality I know takes people with resources and... money - but look at how good CITY OF SCARS was.
On KryptonSite, there are several text fanfictions that putthis stheory to the test. One is The Daek Knight, which is now 13 episodes long, but my favourite is this:
http://www.kryptonsite.com/forums/showthread.php?t=136803
Mainly because it matches more to my vision of what a show should be, Bruce is Batman at the start, and the DC elements (SPOILERS) - suffice to say many are from future episdoes - no there hasnt been an update for a while, but fingers crossed:
- Batman Beyond
- Rachel Dawes from the Nolanverse and Vicki Vale
- Wonder Woman and the League
- Superman
- Jean Paul Valley
- Jason Todd as the FIRST Robin
and several other elements. Who else is with me in liking the Smallville-Bats idea? |

Isn't Smallville a series about Superman as a young man?
Bruce Wayne, to my understanding, doesn't become Batman until after years of College & training to hone his detective skills.
I don't see what adding a young Bruce Wayne would do story-wise for this. |

The famous "Bat-Embargo" in which Batman's presence in stuff is toned down to stop him getting over-exposed. (I know, it makes no sense seeing as he's their most famous and marketed character.) This included barring him from ever appearing in Smallville, any supporting character or villain of his appearing in JLU and all sorts of other stuff. Apparently Nolan had something to do with it. _________________ http://www.youtube.com/user/TheShanahanNetwork

Does anyone really want to see a subpar Bruce Wayne?
No. Before SMALLVILLE actually came out, thinking about its potential (and the fact that it spun out of the BRUCE WAYNE project), I wanted to see it. I'd still love to see a BRUCE WAYNE series at some point. But a good one. _________________ SUPERHERO SCRIPTS |

To be honest, I would love a serious, live-action Batman television show. I feel that it would be the easiest and best way to stay faithful to the comics.
To show how much of a nerd I am, I've actually thought about this quite a lot. Chronologically, it would start around the same time that The New Batman Adventures did, where Batman's been active for a while.
Dick would be in it as Nightwing, and Tim would be Robin. Babs would be Oracle (obviously), and there'd be recurring appearances of both Cassandra as Batgirl and Stephanie as Spoiler (with Tim/Steph being the OTP, of course).
I've got more, but I don't think I'll delve into it any further. Right now, at least.
As for Smallville, to be honest, I'm glad Bats isn't appearing in it. To me, Smallville's gotten progressively worse since Brainiac appeared. A big reason I liked it in its early seasons was that they tried to tell a story of Clark before he became Superman. Now, however, they're just trying to shove in as many characters from the DC Universe as possible, without really caring about proper characterization or respect to the comics.
I can only take solace in the fact that they're finishing after Season 10. |

I too would LOVE a serious live-action Batman show - that's BATMAN, not BRUCE WAYNE.
I weighed up on the subject over at SuperHeroHype, with amendments:

The only Batman TV series to go seriously past Dick-as-Robin and Batgirl is The New Batman Adventures with Tim Drake and Nightwing. Nightwing was of course in Brave and the Bold and The Batman briefly, and there was of course Birds of Prey.
DC Animation are doing their movies now and there's Young Justice coming up, that looks like it's based on the present day comic era (which compared to alot of recent DC Animated Series looks frankly phenomenal!!), but not many screen Batman versions have reached A Death in the Family, Knightfall, No Man's Land, HUSH etc - great, compelling, world developing stories which only people who read the comics seem to know, unless you've heard the BBC radio drama or watched the upcoming Under The Red Hood movie.
I'd originally thought of doing Year One, but everyone jumps on that bandwagon now, hoewver there is in fact a brilliant fanfiction series on the KryptonSite boards called GOTHAM, which thrusts the Dark Knight into the Smallville universe. He has only finished 5 scripts but it is more true to what I'd like to see than other ideas.
The way I'd present the series would be more focusing on the Detective than the Fighter. It would deal with Batman being a loner once more, following Dick Grayson walking out and Barbara Gordon being shot - her character arc would be coming out of hospital and adjusting to her new life in a wheelchair. Each episode would present a new mystery, and eventually Jason Todd would be introduced and Barbara Gordon would pick herself up and establish her identity of Oracle. A difference will be in this timeline not every villain has appeared yet, so the opportunity to do origins for various characters would still be open.
Not alot of people like the whole freak-of-the-week thing, but who doesn't want to see Catwoman, Penguin, Riddler etc. Maybe Penguin would be starting up in the Iceberg Lounge, Catwoman would be turning from villain to anti-hero, and Joker would be seeing Harleen Quinzel for the first time.
Stylisicially, I'd go for a BTAS feel, the recent fan film CITY OF SCARS would also provide major inspiration.
Later seasons would feature Dick Grayson returning as Nightwing, The Joker murdering Robin, Tim Drake coming in and possibly Bane breaking the Bat. I'm not sure if No Man's Land would work on screen so I'd go for HUSH or The Long Halloween. Bringing back Jason Todd from the dead and killing off Buce Wayne would perhaps be a step too far.
DC-wise, versions of other superheroes could be worked in, however Batman's world seem to be less 'alien' than others, and bringing in superheroes with extraordinary powers may look out of place.
A TV Series allows you to develop characters and arcs on a weekly basis in the way movies can't. And something like 5 13-episode seasons on HBO run would be ideal. Then of course a motion picture spin-off at the end!
Anyway, that's how I'd like to see a Batman TV series work. |

Do you have a link to GOTHAM? I'd like to read that. _________________ SUPERHERO SCRIPTS |

A Batman fan series IS in the planning stages.
Once I am done with Batman 1969, I will begin work on the fan series tentatively titled Carrie's World, which will feature a female Robin (you know, from Frank Miller) and a 50-something Bat. Catwoman will also play a prominent role!
I am drawing influences from the 1966 Batman series, as well as the comics, Batman: The Brave And The Bold, Mad Men (yes), and even the 1965-74 series The FBI. The Golden and Silver Ages of comics will also have an influence.
I still need to cast the lead character, as well as Catwoman; Batman is already taken care of, and we have other characters taken care of. _________________
